My old vehicle is the ideal truck to get me to and from job sites, but horsing our tools around is somewhat of a different story. The plan of having a large flatbed to bring and store items was great, however I quickly realized that we should have a means to stash things neatly and secure too. This insight set me on a hunt for work truck toolboxes which would serve the dual job of keeping all of our items in a single, easy to search location, with a locking mechanism that would keep them secure when I was not around.

Ladder rack truck tool-boxes can offer secure storage for your job, play, or traveling supplies and gear. As luck would have it it turns out that we were not the only people who had this brilliant concept, because I came across a huge stack of truck toolboxes to pick from. These tool-boxes came in a whole host of shapes and sizes so that we could select one that should fit our needs the best and not take up that much space in the bed for storage. After all, tools weren’t the only things that I need to haul with us to many sites.

Some of the ladder rack truck toolboxes I came across fitted right up next to the cab, keeping our valuables close on the road while making it hard for anyone to access by simply trying to grab anything. These toolboxes also have long-lasting locks that added to the security factor, which I appreciated greatly taking into consideration how much money and time we have invested on stuff.

Many of these vehicle tool-boxes attach to the side of the bed and were accessible from the side of the truck as well, making it very easy to grab what?s needed without having to climb up and down from the vehicle. As you can appreciate after a couple of days of jumping on and off the truck every time I needed to use a different cutters, clamp, or hammer, we realized the huge importance in this aspect. I also saw units that came with rail system so one could easily slide the tool box toward the end of the truck for easy access, yet keep it pushed tight against the cab when on the road.

In addition to being able to get at the unit without jumping on and off the bed to get at something, I realized that being compatible was another key factor. Coincidentally, many of the tool-boxes that I found were made to fit the large common vehicles, regardless the model or make. Yet, I had an concern with size, since we didn’t want to engulf our bed with a giant container that provideed more space than I really required. An assortment of sizes let us to choose the right amount of space required.

Each category of brick may look similar, or even exactly the same, but there are quite big differences between them…

1) Common Bricks

This type of brick is the industry standard, multi-purpose brick. It can be used in most circumstances, though it is not often the best choice for any of them. The only major restriction on them is that they cannot be used below ground level. Other than that, you can pretty much use them however you want to.

2) Engineering Bricks

These bricks are made to be tough and resolute, and an elaborate special process must be followed to manufacture them. They can take a lot more wear and tear than other types of bricks and have a low rate of water absorption. As they are the least vulnerable to damp, they are nearly always used in preference to other brick types for any part of a structure that falls below ground level.

3) Facing Bricks

These bricks are the ‘face’ of a building, meaning that they are what you see when you look at most buildings. To deal with the weather and varying temperatures that they are exposed to, they are hard burned during the manufacturing process, which makes them extra durable. There are several sub-types of facing bricks, so you will need to do a little research before purchasing them. The climate that you live in will make a difference to which sub-type you need.

4) Special Bricks

Special bricks are so called because they are made to fulfill a specific task, such as finishing off the top of a wall. Slightly curved bricks are the most special bricks, but they are available in just about any shape that you can think of. You can get special bricks manufactured just for you or, if you want to keep costs down, then you can choose from a wide selection that have already been made.

5) Concrete Blocks

Not a brick as such, but concrete blocks are an alternative that can be used to get the same result. Plain concrete blocks can be used when a wall is to be rendered and / or painted, trench blocks are a good and cost-saving choice for foundation courses, and ‘Thermalite’ blocks can be easily shaped into whatever form you want. Many are given a finish to make them look like natural stone.

As which type of brick is best to use, there is no single answer, as it depends on what you are building and the location you are building it. Rather than just guess, you should ask a senior employee at your local brick merchant what they would advise. They should be able to talk you through which combination of bricks is best for getting your job done.

Punch presses play a vital part in the Stamp Presses process. Both of these machines are used to cut steel into a desired shape. The utilization of punch presses and stamp presses can improve a steel fabricator’s output since both machines can form a great number of formed pieces in a short time.

Punch presses contain a die set that determines the specific shape and size for a steel piece. As the sheet metal is passed through the machine, the punch is forced onto the metal as it is being held in place over the die. High pressures force the metal to conform to the die, creating the needed steel shape.

Depending on the needs of the steel fabricator, a punch or stamp press can have a range of sizes. A smaller machine is typically hand-operated, while larger machines are operated by a computer which is programmed to the machine. A number of dies can also be used, each of which is created by a trained craftsman. After a punch press system has been set up, it can product a large volume of steel products each day. Press operators can often manage multiple machines at a time, so a number of different presses can be functioning at once. This allows for high production volumes that will improve the steel manufacturer’s output significantly.

Stamping presses are also used for forming sheet metal. Two components of a die are used in a stamp press, with the lower piece attached to the press and the upper piece attached to a moving mechanism above the press. An automatic feeder keeps sheet metal moving through the machine. As the metal is moved over the lower piece of the die, the top piece is stamped down onto the metal to create the required shape. The swift up-and-down movement creates a fast way of forming a variety of steel pieces.

Punch presses and stamp presses are commonly operated by a hydraulic system, making it easy for the machine operator to monitor the movement of the press. Hydraulic presses exert a consistent pressure with each stroke. Other presses are mechanically-operated and exert a progressive force. In general, mechanical presses can have a higher volume of production because they can form more steel pieces in a given unit of time than a hydraulic press.

A variety of safety options can be added to a punch press or steel press to ensure that workers are not hurt while using the machinery. It?s important that all press operators are thoroughly trained since the presses exert huge amounts of force onto the metal and can move quite quickly during production. Computer-numerical controlled (CNC) machines are generally safer since the operator is less involved with the function of the machine. Regardless of the size and operation devices of a press, these machines are an important part of the steel fabrication process.

We have recently constructed a new house, which was a story on it’s own. No need to tell that the preparation is one of the most important stages in the making off, and that my wife and myself have been dealing all kinds of topics like never before.
We needed several months to agree on all compromises we sometimes had to make.
But I guess that’s familiar to many of you :)

Among others, one of our worries was locating usefull information on decent supporting floors.

You might want to know that we have retained the option for an anhydrite floor for supporting the woorden floor to come on top of it.
It is based on high-quality gypsum, and is applied very fast. Even no need to touch it further when applying since spirit level is obtained without anything more.

There is one really, really neat thing about that anhydrite floor: if you are like us, and don’t want to invest in the wooden floor in the first place, you can finish the anhydrite with a primer. It allows you to delay the wooden floor untill the time is right. Postponing severall years is not a problem.
The look of the anhydrite floor by the way, is cool. It can further be cleaned well once treated with a primer, and anhydrite is know to have a high isolation value.

I found the above referenced site to be very usefull since it contains lots of info on this.
Although the particular site is in Dutch, you can hand it over for translation to babelfish, which makes it comprehensible.

Since I haven’t found any English site containing a similar amount of information, and to be honest, since I speak besides English Spannish, French, German and Dutch as well, I feel free to also refer to the “ecobouwers” site, rich on similar *and* other topics. It is known to be said that the people over there “have a brick in their stomac”

Wheather your are searching for solutions for your ceramic floor or for solving thermic or acoustic isolation needs (in case of floor heating for instance), or if you are, just like me, in the need for appropriate knowledge for making the best decisions, you could take a look at the babelfish translation of above hyperlink.
I didn’t knew, untill I read all about it, what exists on the market. It was nice to have all interesting information on one and the same location. I like pretty much the knowledge on the summation of what could be responses on a FAQ.

That’s as far as what I found out and decided. Our choices might not be yours, but I hope my sharing with you helps in making your own choises.

Oh, and by the way - one last remark : the Dutch and French word “chape”, sometimes incorrectly written as “chappe”, stands for underfloor…
